Why electrolytes become relevant in summer
Sweat is more than water. With every liter, the body loses a varying amount of sodium, potassium, magnesium, and chloride. In heat and during physical exertion, this loss accumulates – and this is where the truly exciting question begins for us at devyne: How do we translate this basic physiological knowledge into a routine that actually works in everyday life?
Not every situation requires the same answer
At devyne, we consistently differentiate between three levels when it comes to fluid and mineral balance in summer:
Nutrition as a foundation – water-rich fruits and vegetables, potassium-rich foods like bananas or potatoes, magnesium-rich sources like nuts and whole grains. For most everyday situations, a conscious diet is sufficient.
Targeted supplementation within a balanced diet – for phases of particularly high stress: intensive training, sustained heat, longer endurance sessions. Here, a practically dosed supplement can make sense, but it never replaces nutrition as the basis.
Individual consultation – in the case of existing illnesses, medication intake, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and for unclear symptoms, the question belongs in a doctor's hands, not in a supplement product.
A point often overlooked in practice
How much a person actually loses through sweat varies greatly – depending on fitness level, climate, individual sweat rate, and training intensity. Blanket recommendations are therefore rarely effective. What is sufficient for one person may be too little for another. That's precisely why we don't view electrolytes as an isolated promise of efficacy, but as a building block that must be classified within the context of the individual situation.
